Camera was installed within the framework of the SIOS Snow Pilot Project
Observed Variable(s)
TERRESTRIAL HYDROSPHERE>SNOW/ICE>SNOW COVER
Harbortronics Cyclapse time-lapse camera system
The camera operates from early Spring to late Autumn. The camera shuts off during the polar night due to an outage of solar power. Images are stored on the internal SD card, which is exchanged twice a year (April/May and September/October).
The camera is installed on the roof of the Polish Polar Station Hornsund. The camera operates in 3 hr intervals, taking images of the lower part of the Fuglebekken catchment, Hansbreen moraines and the eastern slope of Fugleberget.

The instrument is checked twice a year (April/May and September) for basic maintenance (battery and memory card replacement).
Snow depth is measured with the ultrasonic sensor every 30 minutes and recorded on the internal SD card. Every 6 measurement data are sent to the LoRa gateway at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund. In case of the the failure of LoRaWAN transfer protocol data are recorded on the internal SD card
The sensor is installed approx. 2 m above snow-free land surface.

The Polish Polar Station Hornsund (Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences) is running long-term hydrological and hydrochemical monitoring in the Hornsund region. In 2014, the monitoring programme was expanded to the glacierized Ariedalen catchment (Ariebekken river).
Ariebekken - brook from Ariebreen through Ariedalen and debouching in Ariebukta, Hornsund, southernmost in Wedel Jarlsberg Land.
Observed Variable(s)
TERRESTRIAL HYDROSPHERE>SURFACE WATER>SURFACE WATER PROCESSES/MEASUREMENTS>RUNOFF
OnSet Hobo water level logger; Hanna Instruments HI-98195 Multi-parameter Waterproof Meter (Salt dilution method).
The water level loggers are controlled every month (ablation season). Hanna Instruments HI-98195 Multi-parameter Waterproof Meter - once per week.
Runoff measurements using the salt dilution method - once per week. The water level is recorded in the 10 minutes timestep. The monitoring programme is running only in the ablation season.
TERRESTRIAL HYDROSPHERE>SURFACE WATER>SURFACE WATER CHEMISTRY
Autosampler ISCO System 6712; OnSet Hobo CT loggers; Metrohm IC
Autosampler ISCO System 6712 - controlled every few days. OnSet Hobo CT Loggers - controlled once per month. Metrohm IC - every few days
Water samples are collected with the use of an automatic sampler once per week. Their pH, conductivity and chemical composition (major ions) are analysed at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund chemical laboratory. Besides, water temperature and conductivity are measured automatically in situ in the river channels. CT loggers - read monthly / data recording in the 10 minutes timestep. The monitoring programme is running only in the ablation season.
