Weather and clothing

The weather can be very variable in Longyearbyen in January. Please ensure you bring sufficient warm and windproof clothing and warm waterproof boots. It will be dark 24 hours a day, so it is important to wear reflective clothing when walking on or near roads. If you have a head lamp it is a good idea to bring it along.
