The SIOS Remote Sensing Working Group is welcoming the first ECR observer at a SIOS working group!

SIOS is always looking for possibilities to engage and mentor Early Career Researchers (ECR) in our work. Therefore, we have now recruited an ECR as observer for the SIOS Remote Sensing Working Group. Welcome, Will!

Will Harcourt is a 3rd year PhD student at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. His research aims to advance our sensing capabilities by developing a novel millimetre-wave radar system for mapping and monitoring glacier change. He has previously focussed on improving our understanding of the Earth system through satellite data analysis.

The research interests of the SIOS Remote Sensing Working Group (RSWG) closely align with those of Will and was the driving force behind his motivation to join the group. Will attended the 2020 Polar Night Week in Longyearbyen and became inspired by the incredible efforts of the SIOS community to build a monitoring network that advances our understanding of the fragile Svalbard environment. By working with the RSWG, Will is looking forward to meeting new people from across the SIOS community and to contributing to the scientific goals of the working group.
