The SIOS Data Management Service integrates information from SIOS partner data repositories into a unified virtual data centre, the SIOS Data Access Portal, allowing users to search for and access data regardless of where they are archived. Providers and users have to commit to the SIOS data policy. The current focus is on discovery through standardised metadata, and retrieval, visualisation & transformation of data. Ultimately, the Data Management Service works towards integration of datasets which requires a high level of interoperability at the data level. If you use data retrieved through this portal, please acknowledge our funding source: Research Council of Norway, project number 291644, Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System – Knowledge Centre, operational phase.
The dataset includes data from an Argo float. The Argo float is mainly located in the deep water drifting with the currents there. With 5-10 day intervals, they rise from the depth to the surface while taken measurements during the ascent. The Argo float is equipped with sensors for measuring pressure, temperature, and salinity, and in some cases equipped with additional sensors for biogeochemical measurements. Data from the Argo float are sent, via satellites, to data centres, and are available to users within 24 hours.

Adventdalen is a medium-sized (513 km2) catchment in continuous permafrost zone of central Spitsbergen. It is an important study area, but the river is highly unsuitable for monitoring runoff on account of the high sediment yield and extremely unstable channel sections in the large delta. This necessitates the estimation of runoff volume through the application of a suitable model. Daily runoff was therefore simulated using daily precipitation and temperature data series (1991-2016) and the HBV model. Daily water temperature and electrical conductivity were also monitored at the point of interest to provide basic water quality parameters alongside the runoff quantity data.
