  Abstract

  The RV Kronprins Haakon cruise Nansen Legacy seasonal Q4 (Q4= 4th quarter of the year) contributed to the seasonal investigation of the northern Barents Sea and adjacent Arctic Basin. This activity is a key milestone for 2019. The cruise addressed objectives of the research foci in RF1 on Physical drivers, RF2 on Human drivers and RF3 on the living Barents Sea, and collected necessary data along the Nansen Legacy transect in open waters and within the ice cover. Experiments were an important component of the research to quantify processes, rates and interactions that will also feed modeling work and projections in RF4. The ongoing establishment of routines for sampling, data management and data storing continued as part of the practical work onboard.

  Abstract

  Provide information about seasonal, annual and regional variations in biomass and genetic composition of the mesozooplankton fraction along a latitudinal environmental gradient in the Barents Sea from South to North. The samples were collected using Bongonets of both 180 um (mesozooplankton) & 64 um (small mesozooplankton) from the bottom to the surface. When the bottom depth was deeper than 1000 m (P6 & P7).   Mesozooplankton and sediment meiofauna for dietary metabarcoding

  Abstract

  Mesozooplankton samples are divided in two groups: mesozooplankton 1) fixed immediately in ethanol (96%), and 2) fixed in ethanol (96%) after a 48 h gut evacuation step. Sampling gear and details: Bongo 64 um nets from bottom - 0 m, OR 1000 - 0 m at deep stations. Sediment is sampled from box corer at stations where boxcoring is possible. At each station three samples are taken, two with a spoon and one with a cut syringe. All samples are filled with ethanol (96%) and put in the -20C freezer for storage untill laboratory analyses back at UNIS.

  Abstract

  Provide information about seasonal, annual and regional variations in biomass and genetic composition of the mesozooplankton fraction along a latitudinal environmental gradient in the Barents Sea from South to North. The samples were collected using Bongonets of both 180 um (mesozooplankton) & 64 um (small mesozooplankton) from the bottom to the surface. When the bottom depth was deeper than 1000 m (P6 & P7). Samples were taken from 1000-0m.
